[By the time she wanders into the cafeteria, it's a welcome sight in its own way; at least, the lack of any erotic imagery is a breath of fresh air, even if she'd much rather not be in this situation at all. While she looks hesitant about taking a seat, she does, near the other person she sees in this area.
As she glances over the selection of food:]
What do you think the chances are that it's drugged?
...Yeah, I know what you mean. It's pretty crazy, right?
[It hits her suddenly, how young this girl looks - not too much younger than her in the scheme of things, maybe, but still a teenager if she's guessing right. If Beck is freaked out, she wonders how Monika must feel.]
No sweat. Same here, you know? I mean, I'm hoping this'll be over pretty quick, but until we get out... I don't know what I would have done if it were just me, honestly.
Mm, something like that...! It might have just been my dad.
New York! Really? Wow... that’s amazing! I’ve always wanted to visit. It’s in so many stories and plays and poems...! I’ve always wanted to see it. I’m kind of jealous!
Haha... I hope you’re right. [ she sounds wistful for just a moment, but soon carries on. this is exciting! ]
I am! In fact, I founded a literature club at my school. Literature is my passion! So much so I knew I wanted to share it with others, and help them find new ways to express themselves.
I won't say it's easy, but... It's definitely rewarding if you can put in the effort. I've learned a lot since I started. It's been a really amazing journey.
... would you believe I got accepted to Tokyo University?
[ tucks her hair behind her ear, the motion shy ]
It was my dream school. I’ve wanted to go my whole life. I’ve heard that people in the west have actually heard of it? Though... I’ve never had a chance to ask anyone till now!
I worked really hard to get out of where I was, you know? I was finally going to head someplace far away, and learn everything I ever wanted to learn, see everything I wanted to see...
[ there's a wistful note, and she glances around the room, some of the fire leaking out of her. ]
... now we're here. Wherever this place is... fate can be kinda cruel, huh?
w0, friday
As she glances over the selection of food:]
What do you think the chances are that it's drugged?

Who knows. 25%?
[ Her smile is rueful. ]
If it helps, I feel okay so far.
no subject
It does help. And... They probably could have done that while we were sleeping if they wanted to, so we're probably good.
[And as such, she's taking a seat and a plate. This is a strange situation for introductions, but all the same—]
I'm Beck. What's your name?
no subject
[ hm. ]
Monika. Nice to meet you, Beck. Thanks for joining me. It’s nice not to be alone. This place is so...
[ .... you know. ]
no subject

[ Monika will smile at her. It’s nice to have company, especially calm and thoughtful company. ]
Me too. I guess... we’ll at least have each other, huh? That’s something. Adversity really has a way of transforming strangers into friends.
no subject
[She's slipping fully into Big Sister mode, here, as she looks over at her.]
We should probably learn more about each other in that case, huh? Where are you from?
no subject
I’d like that, Beck.
[ Monika hums, tapping her chin. ]
Japan, actually! I know my name probably doesn’t sound Japanese... haha. It’s always kind of stood out, compared to my friends. What about you?
no subject
[She sounds curious, but she continues on all the same.]
The states. I was raised in Nantucket, which is a small island off the side of Massachusetts... But I'm living in New York City right now for school.

It's a pretty cool place. I bet you will, someday. [But, also!] Are you into that kind of thing? Stories, plays and poems, I mean.
no subject
I am! In fact, I founded a literature club at my school. Literature is my passion! So much so I knew I wanted to share it with others, and help them find new ways to express themselves.

That's really cool. You're probably in... high school, right, or just starting college? Is that what you want to study?
[Propping her elbow on the table, she leans her face into her palm.]
That's actually what I do. I'm going for my MFA in creative writing.
no subject
[ she bites her lip. ]
You’re, like... doing exactly what I want to do, yeah! What’s it like? Can you tell me about it?
no subject
[She's curious, though.]
What college are you going to?
no subject
[ tucks her hair behind her ear, the motion shy ]
It was my dream school. I’ve wanted to go my whole life. I’ve heard that people in the west have actually heard of it? Though... I’ve never had a chance to ask anyone till now!

I have heard of it. That's really impressive! You must be excited to get started there.

[She's more nervous about it than she sounds, but she wants to at least seem optimistic.]
Then the both of us can get back to school.
