[Drip. Drip. Drip. He's cold, he's wet, and he's a little pissed off after listening to that announcement. Beck will probably notice that he's patting down the pocket of his pants for something before he settles to answer her question.]

I dove into a pool of blood and corpses. [Said like he's just now actually catching up to what happened, so. Sort of. He runs a hand through his hair, water leaving from his fingertips.] God...I don't know what we're gonna tell Escha.

...I'm guessing they were pretty close?

[She could complain about being soaked, but now doesn't really seem like the time.]

[crashout]

Yeah. Same world, they were partners. She used to tell me about him all the time. I learned more about him from her than I ever did talking to him.

[uncurtained]

Jesus...

[The sympathy is clear in her voice, even as she sighs.]

She seems sweet, but I don't know her that well. How do you think she'll take it?

[crashout]

Badly. [It's an immediate answer, and he actually looks pretty troubled by the idea.] She told me she felt lucky to meet and know him. You don't really recover from losing someone like that.

[uncurtained]

...I'll talk to her soon.

[Not that she thinks she'll be able to make her feel better, but. Sometimes even company helps.]

[crashout]

Sure. I don't know how she'll feel, but Escha's the kind of person who thinks to reach out to people when they need someone. She'll probably at least understand the gesture right back.

[uncurtained]

So, that covers how she's feeling...

[There's an unspoken question there.]

[crashout]

Yeah. Dick's probably not going to be happy about Aizawa, too. I know they worked together and had a pretty okay relationship. [This is the wrong answer, and yet.]

[uncurtained]

[After a moment:]

That's not quite what I was talking about.

[crashout]

I wasn't particularly close to any of them. It's...probably an asshole move to say "I'm not that sad about it" but it's more like "pissed we lost more people, but indifferent about who they were." That doesn't sound any better but it's just more motivation to figure out who's responsible tomorrow.

[A beat.] I care more about how Dick and Escha are going to feel and how they'll handle the trial.

[uncurtained]

I don't think it's that awful. I mean, if it's someone you didn't know - it's kind of like something you'd see on the news, right? Like, it sucks that something painful happened to someone, but... It's different than if that same thing happened to a friend.

[crashout]

Right, that's just it. I wouldn't even really call any of the three of them acquaintances. I've spoken to them a few times, got some impressions and left some, and left the friendship part up to other people. It's not like it was with Prompto.

But it'll make tomorrow a little easier.

[uncurtained]

[After a moment:]

...I think tomorrow's going to be pretty tough no matter what.

[crashout]

You mean because it's still a murder trial? Or because we're being forced into it no matter what we do?

[uncurtained]

Both, but... There are more people than last time, and it's not like any of them are going to pop up and give us answers.

[crashout]

...yeah, I've been thinking about that, too. We're on our own this time and with two crime scenes that don't easily connect. We'll really have to be paying attention to what people say and do. I'll ask everybody for statements about the investigation first thing.
