[There's honest gratitude in her voice as she leans over slightly so she can lay down on the bed.]

[He shifts to give her space, looking at the bed before looking at her and settling to lay down with her. He'll just kind of scoot closer and loosely hold her waist if she'll let him. He's not always great at being comforting, but it's like he said to her. They're friends. It's the least he can do.]

...What do you want to talk about?

[She wasn’t kidding when she said she wasn’t tired - or, at least, she’s too nervous to sleep. As he puts an arm around her, she reaches to take his hand.]

Mm...[He doesn't mind. He genuinely doesn't mind and he lets her take his hand as he keeps close.] Tell me about...the last book you read. You must've found something good in the library right?

I'm not gonna laugh. [He might laugh because he sucks, but he gently bumps into her shoulder anyway.] Tell me.

I don't think I've ever read the book, but I've seen the movie a few times. [It does sound nice though.] Are they the same?

They're pretty similar, yeah. You should read it sometime, I think you'd actually like it.

[crashout]

I can't even remember the last time I've read a book, so maybe I'll take your word for it. I don't mind recommendations.

[uncurtained]

[She's just giving him an affronted gasp.]

Okay yeah but I had to take other classes, Beck! [But he also sounds like he's trying not to laugh.] I've read some classics for my general English courses. But those were still years ago.

Yeah? What was your favorite when you did have to?

[She's curious.]

...the one that stuck with me the most was probably This Side of Paradise. [He was, in fact, looking at Fitzgerald for a reason when they were in the library.] When I first read it I thought it was kind of depressing, but looking at it now I sort of get it a lot better.

[...but he shrugs.] I think the last book I read for myself without prompting was The Hobbit and that was definitely around high school.

You're a cynical idealist, huh?

[It makes sense, though, and she gives a nod.]

That one is pretty good. I haven't read any fantasy in ages...

[crashout]

[There's a low laugh.] I don't really know what I am anymore, but that probably sounds right. I...spent a long time not really seeing what humanity was like. Now that I have, I can't really go back to being overly optimistic. Maybe that's why I'm still okay with fantasy sometimes.
